In this science outreach series, scientists present different scientific topics to the general public in a laid-back atmosphere in an art gallery.

The September 2018 event:
A Brief History of (the Measurement of) Time
Presented by Dr. Mickey McDonald
University of Chicago

Two modern atomic clocks, if switched on simultaneously 14 billion years ago, would disagree by no more than one second when compared today. Is this level of precision… an overkill?
In this talk, Dr. McDonald will discuss the history of timekeeping, how relativity revolutionized our understanding of time, and how current efforts to measure time are shedding light on questions ranging from geophysics to cosmology.

Presentation begins at 8 pm
